The remake changes the story about a woman kidnapping her favorite novelist to a woman kidnapping the writer of her favorite television series. So it makes sense that someone would want to remake it, and that's just what happened in 2003 with the Indian film Juie Ganapathi. Rob Reiner's Misery is still, believe it or not, the only Stephen King adaptation to win an Academy Award. Nearly 20 years later the USA network remade The Dead Zone as an ongoing television series starring Anthony Michael Hall, who solves weekly mysteries while gradually working his way through the plot of the novel, about a politician who may be destined to end the world. Apt Pupil was originally filmed in 1987 by director Alan Bridges, starring Nicol Williamson (Excalibur) as the Nazi and Rick Schroeder (NYPD Blue) as the teenager, but the production ran out of money after ten weeks of filming and by the time the money came through, the young star had aged so much that the footage wouldn't match anymore. This adaptation of King's short story, about a young man who discovers a Nazi in hiding and blackmails him into revealing his terrifying secrets, is only a remake in the loosest of definitions, but let's be thorough.
